Lucky, a stray puppy aged around 3 months who was lying unconscious in a street corner was rescued by Mr. Jai Sai Krishna V a college student and brought this to SS Veterinary Hospital, Nolambur last month with a history of Laboured breathing, Depressive, and was dull in appearance. His Vital parameters were abnormal. As Mr. Sai being a college student was not able to financially support the treatment, DR Shankar S referred SANS Animal Welfare Trust. Being explained about the condition, Mrs. Sudha Chandrasekar had gone in person to discuss further procedures and immediately accepted to bare all the expenses in order to save the puppy.
Dr. Shankar decided to go for a complete blood check-up and radiography. A radiograph revealed a diaphragmatic hernia (A diaphragmatic hernia is an abnormal opening in the diaphragm. The diaphragm is the muscle between the chest and the abdomen that helps you breathe. The opening allows part of the organs from the belly to move into the chest cavity near the lungs). And the chances of survival are very very less. Blood test results too revealed the puppy was in severe anemia. In spite of knowing the puppy has only a mere chance to survive, the Doctors had planned to first stabilize the blood counts and perform an operation to give it a chance to save him from this life-threatening condition. In order to stabilize him in the first place, he was admitted and cautious treatments were given to correct the blood volume. After this, the surgery was performed for about 2 hours by Dr. Venkhatesh Ramaswamy (Auro Multispeciality Pet Hospital, Velachery) and Dr. S. Shankar (SS Veterinary Hospital, Nolambur) at Auro Multispeciality Pet Hospital, Velachery and was successful.
This is one of the Most difficult surgeries performed and huge respect to Dr. Venkhatesh and Dr. Shankar who had put great effort to save this puppy.
The puppy was kept in the hospital shelter under observation after the surgery for around 45 Days until complete recovery. All the expenses with respect to Medical and Boarding were borne by SANS.
This is definitely considered a rebirth for this puppy. We named him Lucky for having survived after all this trauma.
The rescuer MR. Sai after seeing all these difficulties and hard work everyone has put in to save Lucky came forward to adopt him and give him a beautiful and happy future.
